Meet Dr. Shaun McNees
Dr. Shaun McNees is a lifelong Anchorage native and the owner of Healthy Smiles of Anchorage, built to feel like a home for every family in the city. It’s a small practice by design — patients see the same dentist and the same hygienist every visit, not whoever happens to be available. Dr. McNees’ philosophy is simple: patients should leave every appointment completely comfortable and truly understanding what’s happening in their own mouths, cared for by a team that stands behind its work and treats them like friends and family, not files.
Beyond routine and emergency care, Dr. McNees is specially trained in Invisalign clear aligners and in treating wisdom teeth, so patients can come to Healthy Smiles of Anchorage for an urgent issue and for the smile they’ve always wanted, without being sent elsewhere — walk-ins are always welcome. For Dr. McNees, a great smile is about more than appearance — it’s about the confidence that comes with it, and helping patients feel that difference is one of his favorite parts of the job.
A graduate of Service High School, Dr. McNees left Alaska to attend Linfield University (formerly Linfield College) in McMinnville, Oregon, where he first set his sights on dentistry — drawn to a career built on lasting relationships with patients and families. He went on to earn his dental degree from Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry, graduating in 2019.
After dental school, Dr. McNees came home to Anchorage, building his skills at Anchorage Midtown Dental, Alcan Dental, and Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center. That experience — working across a range of patients and practice settings throughout the city — confirmed what he already suspected: he wanted a practice of his own.
In 2021, a conversation with Dr. Terry Preece at a dental conference changed everything. The two hit it off right away, and Dr. Preece saw in Dr. McNees the right person to carry his practice — and his patients — forward. Dr. McNees took over as owner, continuing Dr. Preece’s legacy of care for Anchorage families under a new name: Healthy Smiles of Anchorage.
Dr. McNees is a member of the American Dental Association and the Alaska Dental Society, and stays active in both to keep his care current with the latest standards in the field.
